Pamela Dement-Carpenter

carpenter_smAttorney Pamela Dement-Carpenter focuses on workers’ compensation, family law, criminal defense and mediation. She has extensive, successful jury trial experience as a former Assistant State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County, where she handled all cases, was an Assistant Division Chief, and prosecuted major crimes including felony sexual assault cases and attempted murder cases.

Ms. Dement-Carpenter has practiced in the field of workers’ compensation in both California and Maryland for many years. As a Senior Associate at Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, in Baltimore, Maryland, and as an Associate at H.S. Law Group in San Jose, California, she successfully handled complex workers’ compensation matters before the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission, and prevailed in many jury trials throughout Circuit Courts in Maryland, and in the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland and throughout Courts in California.

Ms. Dement-Carpenter prevailed in part on an employment law case that interpreted federal ADA law in Maryland having argued in the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland and in the Court of Appeals of Maryland. The case was reported nationally and internationally. Ms. Dement-Carpenter is a member of the Maryland Program for Mediation Excellence, and has over 140 hours of training. She has successfully mediated over 100 cases. She mediates all cases, including family law, workers’ compensation cases and personal injury cases. In 2008 she was appointed to the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court panel of family law mediators.

Prior to joining Alpert Schreyer, Ms. Dement-Carpenter was a solo practitioner in Anne Arundel County focusing on family law, mediation, criminal and juvenile defense, and an Adjunct Professor at Anne Arundel Community College, teaching criminology and juvenile delinquency. In 2008 she was recognized as a Leading Family Lawyer by What’s Up Magazine in Annapolis. Ms. Dement-Carpenter graduated from the American University, Washington College of Law, where she was a participant in the Criminal Justice Clinic, and a Deans’ Fellow for Native American Indian Law and edited a casebook for Native American Indian Law. Prior to law school, she worked for the United State’s Senate and in international shipping.

She grew up in Maryland, attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She is an avid Redskins fan, and spends most weekends with her son who plays soccer for Maryland ODP.
