A fatal head-on collision occurred at 5:44 a.m. Saturday, March 9th, 2013, on Route 260 Chesapeake Beach Road not far from Sansbury Road.
As reported by thebaynet.com, and published on March 11, 2013, the crash took the life of a Calvert County man. Another man was seriously injured in the crash which is still under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police.
Police told reporters that the man who died at the scene was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus SE that collided head-on with a 1999 Ford Expedition. According to the preliminary investigation, the Taurus crossed the double yellow lines while headed east on Chesapeake Beach Road and traveled directly into the path of the Ford Expedition. After hitting head-on, the two vehicles came to a stop near the shoulder of the westbound lane. Members of the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene as did deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and several other fire departments. Responders were able to extricate the driver of the Expedition from his vehicle just before it burst into flames. He was transported to Prince George’s Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesman Justin Mulcahy told reporters that since the investigation is still underway, it is not yet known whether excessive speed was a factor in the crash, but that is considered likely. The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is handling the investigation.
