California Passenger Van Crash Causes Injuries

By Alpert Schreyer on July 11, 2013

Southern Maryland Car Accident Injures at Least Two

At least two people were injured in a California Maryland car accident involving a collision between a Jeep SUV and a Dodge Ram Wagon 3500 Maxi Passenger Van full of passengers. According to a Southern Maryland News Net report, the passenger van accident occurred along Three Notch Road at Chancellors Run Road in California. Officials say the Dodge passenger van struck the rear of the Jeep before veering off into a pole. Two people were transported to a nearby facility with minor injuries and 20 patients signed treatment refusals at the scene. It is unclear what caused the rear-end collision, but an investigation is ongoing.

There are many reasons why passenger vans are dangerous. For example, they have a high center of gravity that makes them much more likely to roll over during a crash. This center of gravity is even higher when the third and fourth rows are added allowing for more passengers. These dangerous vehicles often sit in school, church, and company parking lots for long periods of time before being used. If they are sent out without a proper inspection, they may have aging tires that can blow out and cause the van to veer out of control.

Furthermore, these vehicles are typically used to transport many people similar to a bus. Instead of a trained and experienced bus driver at the wheel, there is often an inexperienced motorist or volunteer. Noncommercial drivers rarely know how different a vehicle will handle when loaded with passengers. Passenger vans are often very difficult to stop or turn when full.

If you or a loved one is injured while riding in a passenger van, you may be able to pursue financial compensation from:

  • The at-fault driver responsible for the crash;
  • The company or group using the van at the time of the collision;
  • The van owner if he or she failed to properly inspect and maintain the vehicle; and/or
  • The manufacturer of the van if a defective auto part or design contributed to the crash.

An experienced Southern Maryland car accident attorney can review the circumstances of the accident and determine if financial compensation is available for your medical bills, lost wages and other related damages.
