Last Thursday, Lothian, MD was the scene of a head-on collision that resulted in the the death of a 29 year old Maryland woman.
Ashley Sheree Barnett, a 29 year old reseident of Dunkirk, MD was pronounced dead after a head on collision with a dump truck in Lothian, Maryland. The incident happened before 10:00am and Barnett was transported to MedStar Washington Medical Center by U.S. Park Police helicopter with what were reported to be critical injuries.
According to a release from the Anne Arundel County Police, Barnett succumbed to the injuries and was pronounced dead.
According to reports, the incident happened around 9:45am on northbound Sands Road, just north of Ed Prount Road, where Barnetts 2000 Chevy Cavalier was heading southbound. The vehicle then apparently crossed the center line and struck a 2007 Mack dump truck head on just before Ed Prout Road. Barnett, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. The dump truck driver received just minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
The investigation is being handled by Traffic Safety and any charges are pending review by the state’s attorney.
