Both eastbound and westbound lanes of 1-70 were closed after a tractor-trailer spilled several hundred gallons of corn oil in the road last Monday morning the 21st, according to a staff report by the Frederick News-Post.
The crash happened a little after 6:30 Monday morning November 21st near the exit for Old National Pike, police said. The driver of the tanker truck carrying the oil was in the eastbound lane.
The man driving the truck, whom police have not identified, was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A bystander, Paul Wisner, who lives in the nearby community of Braddock Heights said that after the crash the driver of the tractor-trailer was conscious and alert, but a little disoriented.
“He was laying on the driver’s side and it pinned him in the truck,” the bystander said, according to the Frederick News-Post. “I said, ‘You need to sit still; you don’t know if you have a punctured rib or anything like that,’ I said, ‘You need to wait for the ambulance to get here,’ and he just sort of waved his hand like he understood.”
Police did not divulge at the time exactly how the accident happened as of Monday night. But Wisner said he saw the cars in front of him, including the tractor-trailer, start to swerve, and the accident ensued.
