Just this past Thursday, a Maryland Transportation Authority employee was working along I-95 near Havre de Grace when he was struck and killed. 59-year-old Michael Pearce of Abingdon was working with a mowing crew along the highway around 1pm when he was struck by a 2003 Ford E-150 van. Pearce was a faculties maintenance technician with the Maryland Transit Authority and was pronounced dead on the scene by Harford County emergency medical personnel.
54-year-old Corey Ness of Spring Grove, PA was the driver of the van and both the MdTA and troopers from the JFK Highway Barrack are investigating to find out why the van went off the road onto the right shoulder, hitting a dump truck and then hitting the victim.
Other members of the mowing crew were at the scene and none were injured.
