The 34-year-old driver of a Nissan and the 59-year-old driver of a Toyota Prius were injured in a Maryland car accident, which officials say, may have resulted from driver error. According to a WBAL TV news report, the crash occurred on westbound MD Rt. 175 at Clark Road in Jessup.
Officials say the driver of the Prius failed to yield the right of way while turning left, which resulted in the street intersection collision. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and officials say neither was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Nissan sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and has been listed in stable condition. The driver of the Prius has been listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.Accidents that involve a failure to yield often result in serious injuries because the vehicles involved typically collide at a high rate of speed.

Head-on and T-bone collisions frequently result in traumatic brain injuries, multiple bone fractures, spinal cord injuries, and even death. This is especially true when the motorists involved are in violation of Maryland Code 22-412.3 and are not properly secured in their seat with a seat belt.

These types of accidents can be avoided by simply obeying the law. According to Maryland Code Section 21-402: “If the driver of a vehicle intends to turn to the left in an intersection or into an alley or a private road or driveway, the driver shall yield the right-of-way to any other vehicle that is approaching from the opposite direction and is in the intersection or so near to it as to be an immediate danger.”

It is often necessary for victims of intersection accidents to file a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault driver because serious injuries are costly to treat. Brain, neck, and back injuries often require surgery, prolonged hospital stays, and expensive rehabilitation services that may not be covered by medical insurance.

Some victims even require round-the-clock care that family members may not be able to provide or afford. An experienced Maryland personal injury lawyer will be able to help ensure that injured victims in such cases get the compensation they need and rightfully deserve.
