Christopher Andrew Fike, of Middle River, was driving his 1994 Chevrolet truck on Wilson Point Road in Essex a little before 11:30 p.m. when he lost control of the truck and the vehicle rolled over several times, striking several parked cars.
The driver and a passenger were thrown from the vehicle, the Sun reports. The passenger, Bryan Derek Mast, also a resident of Middle River, died at the scene.
The Sun reports that the cause of the crash is under investigation; police believe neither man was wearing a seatbelt.
The importance of wearing a seatbelt
It’s impossible to know for sure whether or not this tragic accident would have resulted in the deaths of the two men involved had they been wearing seatbelts. That being said, it’s important to remember that seatbelts restrain the strongest parts of the body…and a person is 4 times more likely to be killed in an accident if they are thrown from the vehicle.
It’s important to take all the safety precautions that we can while driving in order to protect ourselves and our loved ones. If you or a loved one have were injured in an accident that was someone else’s fault, seek medical attention first.
