Often, Maryland police chases result in some form of accident, whether during the course of the chase or as the cause of its end. On March 18, a Hanover man pled guilty to charges in connection with an incident in March 2010 that saw him deliberately ram five vehicles with his company’s truck while being chased by police for a separate crime, according to TheBayNet.com.
During the incident, the man had jumped into the truck of the moving company he worked for and fled from police who had come to question him in Prince George’s County. In the course of the chase, the man sped through country roads, the Capital Beltway, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, and smashed into five different cars on purpose. Among the crashes, one sent a car headfirst into a tree, inflicting head and chest trauma to the driver, while another sent a car into a rollover and into the tree line, severely injuring the father and 10-year-old daughter within.
The man was eventually arrested in Anne Arundel County when he stopped and stole a pack of cigarettes from a liquor store.
Truck collisions are serious incidents that can easily result in auto accident injuries for the occupants of other vehicles involved in the crash while causing little to no damage to a truck driver, as seen in this chase. While chases and deliberate collisions such as these are rare, accidents caused by truck driver and company negligence are much more common.
