Pennsylvania Man Victim of Being Trapped In Car by Passing Snowplow
Last weekend marked a snowstorm that actually DID live up to the hype, as Winter Storm Jonas dumped record levels of snow across Maryland, Washington DC and Pennsylvania.
Snowfall of this level brings with it significant dangers, not the least of which is limited areas to move snow to allow travel on roads and highways. At many intersections, visibility is significantly lessened by piles of plowed snow and drifting. In the case of a Pennsylvania man last Saturday night, the danger of actually being trapped inside your car was brought to public attention.
56-year-old David Perrotto died Saturday night, according to the Berks County coroner’s office. Perrotto was found in his car about 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia in Muhlenberg Township and was pronounced dead after being trapped inside his running car by a passing snowplow.
Officials have said it appears that Perrotto was trying to dig out his car and then got into the car either to take a break and warm up or actually try to pull out of the space when the snow plow passed by. The plow essentially buried the car, which blocked the exhaust and prevented Perrotto from getting out.
Perrotto’s car was discovered in the snow by another person who was also digging their car out and they alerted authorities.
Snow and ice increase the chances of unfortunate circumstances happening. Unfortunate circumstances can lead to personal injury and sometimes death. Some accidents can’t be avoided, but many can. An accidental death affects the victim’s family for life. If you have lost a loved one in an accident due to someone’s negligence, that could have otherwise been prevented, the feeling of grief and unfairness is overwhelming. If you are the one designated to handle the finances and expenses of your loved one, this stress can interfere with your own grieving process and your ability to be there for your family.
