As reported by WUSA 9, one person died and several more were injured in a Landover, Maryland multiple vehicle crash.
The fatal accident occurred on Monday morning, March 4, 2013. Landover Road (Maryland 202) had to be closed to both directions of traffic not far from Firehouse Road because of the accident, according to a Prince George’s County Police spokesperson. According to information provided to WUSA 9 reporters by Corporal Clinton Copeland, Prince George’s County Public Information Officer, emergency personnel received a call at approximately 11:47 a.m. Monday stating that a motor vehicle collision with injuries had occurred near Firehouse Road.
Copeland told reporters that according to the preliminary investigation, a Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit an arrow sign put in place to direct traffic around an area where construction was taking place. The Charger then struck a Ford Expedition SUV and continued to crash head-on into a dump truck parked in the construction area. No one was in the dump truck at the time.
The driver of the Dodge Charger was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The two passengers in the Charger were taken to a local hospital. They suffered serious injuries. One person in the Ford Expedition also had to be transported to the hospital. A construction worker at the scene was taken to the hospital also after being hit by flying debris. His injuries were considered non-life threatening.
